What's with the 'read and change data' permission in Chrome?

That's right, we're talking about this guy:

So, that 'read and change' pop-up when you install our extension is pretty standard across Chrome extensions–– our extension does not capture or alter any personal or payment information from the websites you visit. The only information we 'change' on a website is when we test coupon codes in the code box, and our extension only has access to that one specific coupon code box and nothing else on the page.  Here's a good New York Times article that explains that 'read and change information' warning and you can find the details of our privacy policy if you'd like to take a look here.

The best way to determine if an extension is legitimate or not is to check the reviews of that extension, including the amount of users and its rating.  Here's a direct link to our Chrome store page so you can check that if you'd like. We currently have over six million users and a five-star rating :) If you still don't feel comfortable using the extension, it's possible to create an account with us and check out the coupon codes while logged in at JoinHoney.com.

If you've got a question about privacy, you can ask us directly at privacy@joinhoney.com.
